Job Description

The Senior Technical Marketing Engineer for Data Solutions is a technical evangelist and a marketing specialist. The role requires someone with both excellent communication skills and a passion for technical areas of data architecture and modern application needs. The technical marketing engineer will help define how to solve customer problems with our data solutions, and will require strong partnering and problem solving skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities
  • Communicate our data products and strategy through the mediums of blogs, forums, webinars, and face-to-face interactions with customers and partners
  • Define data technical reference architectures for Enterprise and Cloud applications
  • Developing technical sales guides, best practices, and technical analysis of competing solutions
  • Market opportunity analysis and framework of different technologies and solutions to drive product positioning and definition
  • Technical field enablement
Requirements
  • At least 6-10 years of experience in technical marketing in the data, Cloud, or SaaS industry
  • BS in Computer Science or related technical degree preferred, master's degree or PhD desirable
  • Excellent listening, oral and written communication/presentation skills with strong ability to influence people at all levels and in various functions
  • Strong awareness of data market trends and potential influence on VMware’s business

The Senior Product Manager will join a small but growing data product management team and his or her contribution will have a substantial impact on VMware’s roadmaps for products such as SQLFire, GemFire and others. The product manager is the “mini CEO” of the product and uses a broad set of skills and experience to ensure its overall success.

The Application Platform division of VMware is seeking a Director of Product Marketing with expertise in data management technologies for its Palo Alto, CA location.

The VMware vFabric Application Platform division of VMware, Inc., (NYSE: VMW) provides a complete suite of software products that accelerate the build, run, manage enterprise application lifecycle. We are looking for a product marketing leader to own the overall product go-to-market strategy for the data services of the VMware vFabric Cloud Application Platform. In this role the Director of Product Marketing will lead of Product Marketing Managers owning individual product positioning, pricing and packaging, building and monitoring key performance indicators, understanding the dynamics of both direct and channel sales, and influencing many teams towards common goals.

This role will drive the marketing strategy, messaging, positioning, pricing, packaging, field enablement and evangelism of VMware’s Data Management technologies which include vFabric GemFire, vFabric Data Director and vFabric Postgres.

Job Responsibilities

The Director of Product Marketing will drive the following strategic efforts for the data management components of VMware’s application platform business. He/she will work with product marketing managers to:
  • Create a go-to market strategy to successfully launch new products and solutions into targeted market segments and lead successful execution of your plan across functions
  • Develop positioning and messaging that resonates with the target market, relating product capabilities in terms that customers understand, care about, and are willing to pay for
  • Own overall product launches that generate momentum and high-quality sales leads
  • Develop customer-facing launch materials, release announcements, and content for corporate and community websites
  • Evangelize how our customers have successfully deployed our products to solve real business challenges
  • Acquire deep customer knowledge through market research, segmentation analysis and 1:1 customer interviews
  • Create the core marketing content and sales tools needed to support various sales channels (direct and indirect) to reach customers with a consistent and relevant message
  • Define pricing and packaging for these technologies that balance revenue maximization with product proliferation
  • Track competitive activities and market developments to ensure the field is equipped with clear messages that differentiate our product lines
  • Evangelize company and product strengths with press and industry analysts

Required Skills/Experience
  • 8+ years in application platform software Product Marketing, ideally with experience in a range of data management technologies and with 2+ years managing Product Marketing teams
  • MBA preferred
  • Experience driving product marketing for major product lines at both strategic and tactical levels
  • Track record of outstanding product positioning and innovative campaign and programs execution to deliver measurable growth in new customer acquisition
  • Excellent communication skills including experience with executives, industry analysts and press
  • Experience with selling through multiple channels, including direct sales, web, VAR, and Corporate Resellers
  • Demonstrated success in leading cross functional teams and effective project management and analytical/decision-making skills
  • Self-starter, high-energy, with ability to execute on business objectives
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task, change priorities rapidly, and work under pressure
